We went to Gran Canaria with a 2-year-old toddler, and it was important for us at the time that our getaway is designed the way that everyone gets a good amount of rest and enjoys the days with fewer chores possible. This island was just the perfect solution for all three of us!

As opposed to many different leisure activities, including camping, backpacking, and road-tripping, this time we decided to try a Gran Canaria hotel with a water park and an all-inclusive deal, and honestly, I believe going for Gran Canaria family hotels is the best option for the places like this.
Here are the reasons why:
The Canary Islands are not filled with sightseeing tours and activities outside the property. You would like to spend some time at the pool enjoying the sun in one of the family hotels Gran Canaria.
It may seem boring, but days were passing by so quickly, and we were extremely busy learning to swim, jump in the water, slide, and dive with our toddler. If you think about all the fitness programs and children’s playgrounds you use during the day, trying out all the different pools and hot tubs, you will realize how busy you are throughout the day simply enjoying your family time together…and absence of chores.

What is the best area to stay in Gran Canaria for families?
There are quite a few areas and family resorts in Gran Canaria worth staying.
Originally, we have booked to stay in Maspalomas right at Playa del Ingles, but then we were transferred to another hotel in San Agustin which was a 10-minute drive away. Both these areas are fantastic for a family vacation.
Maspalomas rightfully is the best resort in Gran Canaria for families: peaceful, safe and offer a variety of spectacular beaches with tons of family activities nearby. In fact, Maspalomas is filled with kid-friendly activities, including sand dunes, camel rides, Palmitos Park, Mundo Aborigen, moonlight cinema, dolphin tours, Puerto Mogan and much more. Both water parks, Aqualand and Lago Taurito Water Park, are located in the south of Gran Canaria too.
Las Palmas of Gran Canaria is quite a popular destination for tourists too. It is a very nice area with spectacular views, but it is also the city centre of Gran Canaria. Free parking space is harder to find and it is more crowded because it is also a business hub of the island.
If you travel as a family, it is a great idea to stay in the south of the island and spend one or two days visiting Las Palmas by car, it is around 30-40 minutes’ drive.
Needless to say, Las Palmas is filled with nice pubs, cafes, and restaurants. It offers beautiful beaches wherever you go and there are fantastic things to do in Las Palmas, such as visiting the largest curved oceanarium in the world and Casa de Colon visited by Columbus. In our case, we rented a car and went to Las Palmas for a day tour which was enough.

So, let’s find out where to stay in Gran Canaria.
Fun fact: Family hotels in Gran Canaria don’t have a king-size or double beds. What you will get are two single beds put together. But be careful! They are sliding, so the chance to get on the floor in the middle of the night in the attempt of getting a cute warm cuddle may be your reality!
1. Radisson Blu Resort & Spa (Puerto de Mogan)
Located in one of the most famous family resorts in Gran Canaria, Puerto de Mogan, Radisson Blu Resort is a fantastic choice for a family vacation. It offers two swimming pools, a hot tub, and one pool for children, plus a splash zone.
There are an on-site fitness centre and a spa with an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, Turkish bath, and water jets. No to mention massage and other services to make you feel absolutely relaxed.
Radisson Blu Resort is proud to be one the most sport active hotels as their facilities also include a rock-climbing tower, a tennis and volleyball court, and a running track. They offer such activities as snorkelling, diving, and cycling in the area too.
Puerto Mogan is an amazing family resort Gran Canaria filled with nice cafes, restaurants, and beaches. The hotel is located near Playa de Amadores and Maspalomas. Lastly, to make your family vacation unforgettable, famous Lago Taurito Water Park is an only 15-minute drive.
2. Paradise Lago Taurito & Waterpark (Playa Taurito)
Speaking of the famous Lago Taurito Water Park, why not stay right there and enjoy water slides, hot tubs, and foam jets every single day?
It is one of the Gran Canaria best hotels that include an outdoor swimming pool and a children’s mini-club. Plus, you will get free access to the Lago Oasis Water Park. How cool is that?
There is more, Tautiro Beach is only 50 yards (45 m) away. And you get the room with a side view of the Atlantic Ocean. On top of that, there are numerous sports activities, such as tennis, squash, and paddle courts. You children will be entertained daily and you will get an all-inclusive deal provided with a variety of Spanish and International dishes, snacks, ice-creams, drinks and even pizza making show.
There is a great chance you’d never want to leave the premises during your entire stay.
A chain of Lopesan Hotels in Gran Canaria
This is by far my favourite hotel chain with the most family-friendly hotels in Gran Canaria that thought through every single detail. Personally, we chose to stay in both Abora Buenaventura and Abora Interclub and had a fantastic all-inclusive holiday.
All these hotels are located in a fantastic area near to the majority attractions you would wish to see. Every hotel features swimming pools, kid’s play areas, babysitting service, family rooms, special shows and events, outdoor and rainy activities, and much more.
3. Gran Canaria Lopesan Baobab Resort (Meloneras)
It is a five-star luxury hotel featuring seven swimming pools. The uniqueness of this experience that you will stay in tropical gardens and a hotel designed in the African style.
There are four different restaurants on-site, including Spanish and International cuisines. Pili Pili specializes in grilled meats and seafood, while Akara is all about African cuisine. It is up to you whether you wish to include breakfast only or go for an all-inclusive deal. On top of that, you will have a special coffee shop and pool bars next to the pools.
The hotel is located right next to Maspalomas Beach with Dunes, where you can enjoy camel rides and a variety of fantastic activities enjoying Gran Canaria with kids.
4. Abora Interclub By Lopesan Hotels (San Agustin)
Abora Interclub conquered us with its service, so our holiday could not be better than this. We rate it as one of the best family hotels in Gran Canaria.
This four-star hotel provides an all-inclusive deal only for a very reasonable price for which you will get a spacious family room with an extra living room and a sunny terrace, so you could enjoy your time together after kids are in bed; toddlers and babies will get a travel cot and a step stool.
Incredibly delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, including Spanish, Italian, Asian, and African dishes; Pool bars, snack bars filled with ice-cream, and cocktails of all kinds; Tennis and basketball courts, a special daily fitness programmes and games both for adults and kids. This is all and more offered by this amazing hotel.
What is there for kids?
Gran Canaria with toddler cannot be better when staying at Abora Interclub. Apart from three swimming pools and two hot tubs outdoors, there is a splash area and a toddler pool with a gorgeous view of the Atlantic Ocean. There are three different slides, so you barely need a water park and two children’s playgrounds with a variety of activities. Don’t forget about babysitting services and the children’s mini disco with Paco.
5. Abora Buenaventura By Lopesan Hotels (Playa del Ingles)
Abora Buenaventura is also a four-star hotel and it is very similar to the Abora Interclub experience. Unlike Interclub, it is located in Playa del Ingles in Maspalomas, which is only 550 yards (500 m) away. There are loads of things to do in Playa del Ingles.
There are four swimming pools on-site including a special pool for kids and a playground area. The entertainment for kids and adults is included too. The only other difference with Abora Interclub that I may find is that the room is equipped with an electric kettle which for me, a tea fan, was a lifesaver.
6. Abora Continental By Lopesan Hotels (Playa del Ingles)
Finally, Abora Continental is a three-star hotel which, to be honest, is not inferior in quality to the above-mentioned hotels.
The best thing about this hotel is its location which is in the centre of the lively Playa del Inglés resort offering tons of places to visit in Gran Canaria. Abora Continental is just a few minutes’ walk from a 3.7 miles stretch of beach that extends up to Maspalomas.
The hotel features two swimming pools for adults, a children’s pool and four hot tubs. There is a kid’s playground area, including daytime and evening entertainment.
7. Suites and Villas By Dunas, Maspalomas
Another great option for your family vacation. Set within extensive gardens, this bungalow complex is situated next to Maspalomas Dunes and Golf Course. You will be never bored as there are lots of things to do in Maspalomas for you and your kids.
It offers outdoor pools surrounded by sun terraces and kid’s splash zone! Go for an all-inclusive deal and you will get a buffet offering a different theme each day.
What is different from other hotels, that Suites & Villas by Dunas offers a bike centre. Also, it features a water park, mini-club for kids and a whole range of entertainment for both adults and youngsters.
8. The Koala Garden Hotel, Maspalomas
Koala Garden Hotel made one step forward in terms of entertaining kids. Apart from numerous daytime and evening entertainment, splash zone, absolutely cute kids’ playground, gigantic chess game, they also have a variety of indoor activities, such as soft play and cooking classes for little chefs.
The hotel features one swimming pool with gorgeous spacious family rooms and fantastic linen. It is located in Maspalomas with an easy reach to the majority of activities of Gran Canaria.
9. Seaside Sandy Beach Hotel (Playa del Ingles)
Seaside Sandy Beach Hotel is for sports lovers offering a variety of on-site sports activities including tennis courts and outdoor gym with the view of the Atlantic Ocean. Maspalomas Golf Course is only 0.9 miles (1.4 km) away.
This Arabic-style hotel features an outdoor pool with a spa and wellness centre including a Hammam, sauna and a variety of massage services. Your children can enjoy spacious outdoor playground facilities and mini club indoor area.
The Playa del Ingles is only 550 yards (500 m) away. Plus, you can enjoy all-inclusive, half-board or breakfast only deal at your convenience. Think about the poolside snack bar and an on-site bakery. Coffee and cakes are served every afternoon.
10. Kumara Serenoa by Lopesan Hotels (Maspalomas)
An extremely sophisticated option is offered by Lopesan Hotels. Recently refurbished Kumara Serenoa features a gorgeous sub-tropical garden with an amazingly large outdoor swimming pool. It also offers a kid’s playground.

One of the add-ons I absolutely love is that each unit has a coffee machine and a microwave.
11. TUI Blue Orquidea Hotel (Playa del Aguila)
A beautiful four-star hotel choice for the ones who wish to stay in a peaceful relaxing zone. TUI Blue Orquidea is located in Tarajalillo, a little bit further than Playa del San Agustin or Maspalomas. It will take you around 6 miles (10 km) to get to Maspalomas.
The hotel features a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and bar with breakfast included only.
12. HD Parque Cristobal (Playa del Ingles) – Bungalow
There is no cheaper option and such an amazing service than in HD Parque Cristobal. For less than $65 USD (£50 GBP), you will get an entire bungalow with a well-equipped kitchen for your family.
The bungalow complex is located in the heart of Playa del Ingles with a short walking distance to amazing beaches of Gran Canaria.
At the property, you will get all that you need to relax and have fun with your kids, including two swimming pools, kid’s splash zone, playground and indoor soft play area. There is special entertainment for kids during the day and evening too.
13. Cordial Mogan Valle (Puerto Mogan) – Apartments
Cordial Mogan Valle Apartment complex prides to have one of the best kid’s entertainment programme in Gran Canaria. Apart from a kid’s swimming pool, splash zone, and children’s playground, there is a mini club area with daily activities, games, and competitions for little young guests.
The apartment complex is set in the heart of the fishing area of Puerto Mogan, which is known as Little Venice. This is also one of the main attractions in Gran Canaria. The area is filled with nice cafes and restaurants too. But the beach is just metres away from Cordial Mogan.
The apartment is equipped with a kitchenette and there is a restaurant with delicious meals served every day. Oh! Did I mention the gorgeous view of the stunning mountainous Mogan Valley?
14. Monte Feliz (San Agustin) – Apartments
Monte Feliz offers a great value offering a swimming pool, kid’s splash zone and a playground. The complex is located only 350 yards (320 m) away from the beach and is near the popular Maspalomas district.
The apartment has a small kitchen with a microwave and a fridge which is great for cooking home-made food and save some euros on eating out. Did I mention there are a spa and sauna on the premises?
15. TUI BLUE Las Pitas (San Agustin) – Apartments
Another amazing apartment complex is TUI Blue Las Pitas featuring one outdoor swimming pool, a bar, and a garden. It is the most budget option offering well-equipped apartments facilitated with a kitchen, coffee machine, and microwave. There is a bar, restaurant and spa wellness centre for you to make your holiday more relaxing.
Apart from these amazing resorts and family hotels in Gran Canaria, there is a huge variety of things to do with kids in Gran Canaria.
